This enables research, capacity building and product incubation, conducted by scientists in Africa and for Africa, and empowers African institutions to harness innovations for regional impact. Vision To contribute towards improving the livelihoods of millions of resource poor people in Africa, through the use of bioscience-based technologies to improve agricultural productivity, increase incomes and improve food and nutritional security. RESEARCH Research at the BecA-ILRI Hub brings together over 40 institutions, universities, government ministries, regional agencies and non-governmental organizations across countries in Africa, Europe, Australia and USA. Africa Biosciences Challenge Fund (ABCF) The Africa Biosciences Challenge Fund (ABCF) is a competitive fund that provides capacity building and research opportunities at the BecA-ILRI Hub for African scientists and students from African national research institutes and universities. Biosciences eastern and central Africa - International Livestock Research Institute (BecA - ILRI) Hub The BecA-ILRI Hub is a shared agricultural research and biosciences platform that exists to increase access to affordable, world-class research facilities. Located at and managed by ILRI in Nairobi, Kenya, the BecA-ILRI Hub provides a common biosciences research platform, research-related services and capacity building opportunities to eastern and central Africa and beyond. Capacity building to empower African scientists Increasing the capability of African scientists and institutions to use the tools of modern biology in addressing priority constraints to African agriculture. Technologies and research related services Supporting researchers and scientists from national, regional and international agricultural research institutions, universities and the private sector. Product development for improved agriculture Strengthening existing partnerships with the private sector and other stakeholders for the development and delivery of products such as improved crop and animal disease diagnostics tools. Networks for increased impact Building strategic partnerships with national and international agricultural research institutions to develop pathways to impact for bioscience innovations.
